Opportunities
I am looking to grow the Glacier and Climate Dynamics group within the Department of Geography at the University of Oregon!
Graduate opportunities: I am recruiting graduate students to begin Fall 2025 (MS or PhD). There are several potential project areas related to ice and climate, including mountain-glacier and ice-sheet dynamics. A range of undergraduate majors (e.g., physical geography, earth science, or other natural sciences) may provide suitable background. In general, strong quantitative skills will be important for methods used in the group. Interested students are encouraged to email me (including a CV) to discuss further. Note that formal applications are handled through the Geography Department graduate admissions process, and applications are due Dec. 10.
Undergraduate opportunities: UO undergrads interested in research opportunities are always welcome to reach out. Students from a variety of majors may be well-prepared to get involved, though a strong quantitative background (or drive to develop such skills) will be helpful for the tools used in the Glacier & Climate Dynamics group.
Openings for specific funded research assistant positions will be posted when available. These are most likely to be summer positions, so look for updates during spring.
The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation supports undergraduate research through a variety of awards and fellowships. If you’re interested in applying with me as a faculty mentor, please get in touch! A range of ice or climate-related topics may be possible.
Even if specific positions are not immediately open, general inquiries about how to get involved in or prepared for ice- or climate-related research are also welcome.
Postdoctoral opportunities: Those interested in national fellowships (e.g. NSF OPP or EAR; NOAA Climate and Global Change) to be hosted at UO are encouraged to reach out about proposal ideas.
